Kids Love Drawing

Ever had a moment when your kid picked up a crayon and dropped it 10 seconds later? 😅
That was me. My kid used to think drawing was “boring” — until I made a few changes. Now? They ask to draw before homework. Let me share what worked (from real, daily life, promise 💯).
🎨 Start with their world
At first, I used to show my kid “how to draw properly.” Big mistake.
One day, I just asked: “What do you feel like drawing today?”
Turns out, they wanted to draw dinosaurs eating pancakes. 🦕🥞
So we started there. No rules. Just imagination. Once they felt like they were the boss of their own art, things clicked.
🖍️ Don't obsess over tools
You don't need fancy markers or expensive pads.
I gave my kid a stack of old printer paper and 10 color pencils. That freedom (no pressure to “save paper”) made them go wild.
Sometimes we even use cardboard boxes, cereal boxes — anything becomes a canvas. It's fun and free.
🧸 Turn it into a game
We play this game called “Draw with Me.”
I draw one silly shape, then they add on to it, and back and forth we go.
No right or wrong — just lots of laughs. It makes drawing feel like playtime instead of “homework.”
🏆 Display their art proudly
When my kid finished a doodle, I stuck it on the fridge.
You'd think it was a masterpiece in a gallery the way they smiled. 😄
Even better — we made a “mini art wall” in the hallway.
Showing off their work builds confidence and motivation.
📚 Get inspired together
We read picture books and say things like, “Could we draw a page like this?”
Or I show them simple how-to videos with step-by-step animals. They love seeing progress.
The point isn't to “copy perfectly,” but to spark new ideas.
⏰ Keep it short & sweet
When I stopped pushing for long drawing sessions, my kid started asking for more time.
Now we do 10–15 mins of drawing almost every day. Short bursts = more fun, less pressure.
🧡 Lykkers, give it a try!
If your kid isn't into drawing yet, don't worry. Just tweak how you invite them in.
Let them lead, keep it playful, and celebrate every scribble.
Have you tried any of these with your kids? Or got your own tricks?
Tell me in the comments — I'd love to learn what works in your home too! ✨🎨👇
